The largest Lotto Texas jackpot was won in 2004 and it was worth $145 million. The grand prize was claimed by VOM Enterprizes Ltd and the winning ticket was sold in El Paso.
Lotto Texas History
November 1992 The first Lotto Texas draw was held in November 1992 with a six from 50 matrix. The first jackpot, worth $21.8 million, was won two weeks later by a single player.
February 1997 Initially, jackpot winnings could be claimed only as an annuity but in February 1997 a cash lump-sum option was introduced as an alternative to the annuity.
July 2000 In July 2000 the matrix was changed to require players to match six numbers out of 54.
May 2003 In May 2003 the lotto game was revamped and the matrix was changed for the second time. Players were now required to match five numbers from a pool of 44, plus one additional Bonus number from a second pool of 44.
June 2004 A single ticket holder from El Paso claimed the largest jackpot in Lotto Texas history on 19th June 2004, winning $145 million.
April 2006 In April 2006 the game reverted to its previous single matrix of six from 54 and has remained the same ever since.
April 2013 In April 2013 the XTRA game was introduced, offering players the chance to increase their prizes for matching three, four or five numbers by playing Lotto Texas With XTRA for a small additional stake.
August 2021 In August 2021, a third weekly drawing was introduced, meaning players get three chances per week to win the jackpot. The new Monday draw takes place at the same time as the existing Wednesday and Saturday draws.
